Minsal and COSSAN2023 present the Inter-Institutional Healthcare Plan

This Wednesday, the Ministry of Health (Minsal) and the Organizing Committee for the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023 (COSSAN2023) presented the Inter-institutional Healthcare Plan to different directors of national hospitals, health units, and regions of each of the departments that will be involved in the regional sporting event.

This plan, presented in the auditorium of the Hospital Nacional de la Mujer “Dra. María Isabel Rodríguez”, seeks to coordinate and manage adequate medical and health care for the nearly 40 thousand people who will be involved in the San Salvador 2023 Games, including athletes, coaches, and members of the National Olympic Committees (NOC).

During the presentation of the plan, the functions that COSSAN2023 will have in important aspects such as the prevention or detection of doping in the games, as well as the structure of the emergency care teams, comprised by the National Integrated Health System (SNIS), which includes entities such as the Solidarity Fund for Health (FOSALUD), the Medical Emergency System (SEM), Civil Protection, the Salvadoran Social Security Institute (ISSS), the Rescue Corps, and the San Salvador City Hall, were also presented.

Dr. Rafael Morales, head of the COSSAN2023 Medical and Anti-Doping Services Department, explained the goal of this plan.

“We are interested in them knowing about it because there will be multidisciplinary teams stationed in each of the venues, hospitals, and health units directly for the handling of any medical incident involving the athletes or participants of the Games”.

Morales also stressed the importance of having a plan that allows for all possible health situations to be foreseen.

“One of the most important and noteworthy things that every organization of these games has is health. The central government, through the sports office, is giving great support because they are putting trained and specialized staff at the service of the athletes and delegations that will come,” he concluded.
