This Tuesday, the Organizing Committee for the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023 (COSSAN2023) received the visits of three International Technical Delegates (ITD), whose objective is to refine the final details in the venues of each of the sports they represent.
Cuba’s Ariel Sainz (indoor volleyball), Venezuela’s Félix Ducharne (table tennis), and El Salvador’s Melissa Alvarenga (fencing) visited two of the main venues of the San Salvador 2023 Games. In the case of Sainz and Ducharne, both took part in the tour of the Palacio de los Deportes Carlos “Famoso” Hernández, while Alvarenga toured the facilities of the Universidad de El Salvador (UES).

After the visit, Sainz remarked on the importance of having optimal conditions for indoor volleyball and also highlighted the level of the teams that will participate in the regional sporting event that will begin on June 23.
“It is important to have a good competition gymnasium equipped with all the necessary resources, as well as two training rooms that allow the preparation and basic conditioning activities prior to the game to be carried out on the stage itself. Eight of the best teams by gender in the region will be present here, including the Colombian national team, and this will be an added value to the celebration of these games, in which we are highly motivated and committed to make them happen,” commented the Cuban delegate.
Sainz also acknowledged the synergistic work that has been done with COSSAN2023 and the Salvadoran Volleyball Federation, in addition to being excited about the level of volleyball that can be expected at the games.

“We have maintained close communication with the Organizing Committee from the beginning; we have involved the federation; they have been part of this organizational process, and the contribution from a technical standpoint has been very important to us. It is going to be a fantastic occasion. We are preparing a short competition system with five days of competition, which has advantages because the teams must play at their best every day in order to advance to the next phase,” he said.
Ducharne, for his part, acknowledged the willingness of the Organizing Committee to finish the work on time, as he believes that table tennis will provide a real show during the days of competition, with high-level players such as Puerto Rican Adriana Díaz.
“What I have seen—the willingness and eagerness to do things right—is there, and for me that is the most important thing. El Salvador should expect its teams, its fans, and its players to see people like Adriana Diaz, who is among the top 10 players in the world. That is going to be a great show. We will also have players who are among the top 100 players in the world. I believe that once again we will have high-level competition and people will be able to appreciate it,” said Ducharne.
At the UES, Melissa Alvarenga, as well as Sainz and Ducharne, were joined by members of the Infrastructure and Sports areas of COSSAN2023, with whom they were able to work hand in hand, share recommendations, and answer questions so that fencing has the best conditions to shine in the oldest regional sporting event on the continent.
Fencing will see activity in the games from July 2 to 7, at the UES Coliseum. Table tennis will take place from June 21 to 26, while volleyball will be held from July 4 to 8, both at the Palacio de los Deportes Carlos “Famoso” Hernández.

Volleyball at Liceo Salvadoreño
Last night, after finishing a busy work agenda, Ariel Sainz opted for the Liceo Salvadoreño for men’s and women’s volleyball.
“We evaluated that the Marist high school can host women’s indoor volleyball; we just have to make some technical adjustments to validate this venue. Volleyball will be a success at the games, and that is what we are working for,” said Sainz.
