Ivonne Nóchez: “I am proud to know that I am once again a flag bearer”

Skater Ivonne Nóchez said she was proud to be, along with beach soccer player Eliodoro Portillo, the Salvadoran flag bearers in the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023.

The Salvadoran received the news in Cali, Colombia, where she is recovering from a fall, she suffered on April 29 during her participation in the Skating World Cup in Gross Gerau, Germany.

“I am proud to know that I am once again the flag bearer in international games. I am very happy. I feel very proud of these games that will be at home, and I will carry the flag as it should,” said the athlete, who in her 13 years of sports career went from being a promise to the top figure of Salvadoran skating.

Ivonne wrote a special chapter in the history of the national sport with three historic gold medals at the 2022 World Skating Games, which took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Nóchez crowned a great year by being named Female Athlete of the Year and Junior Athlete of the Year at the E&G Awards Gala organized by the National Sports Institute of El Salvador (INDES).

For Nóchez, it will be the second time she will wave the national flag in an inaugural parade after the Valledupar 2022 Bolivarian Games, which were held from June 24 to July 5.

“I have many mixed emotions after fracturing my collarbone and knowing that I am in the competition.  I am really happy,” said the skater, who will be competing as part of the senior national team from this year on.
