Jimena Saldaña, first vice-president of Centro Caribe Sports: “They came through at a very difficult time for the continent and the entire world”

As part of a progress inspection prior to the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023, the first vice-president of Centro Caribe Sports (CCS), Jimena Saldaña, visited the country during the weekend accompanied by COSSAN2023 staff.

The head of the regional entity visited the facilities that will host the sports event, and she seemed highly satisfied with the work done by the Organizing Committee, emphasizing on their courage for taking up the challenge of organizing the game on such short notice.

“The work of COSSAN2023 has been extraordinary, I am amazed. They came through at a very difficult time for the continent and the entire world (the COVID-19 pandemic), and all the Olympic Committees appreciate it. Their effort is impressive, and I want to communicate what I see to the Olympic Committees, to ensure them that we are on the right track for a great event”, Saldaña commented.

On Friday morning, Saldaña and Dinora Acevedo, general director of COSSAN2023, visited the facilities of Universidad de El Salvador to verify the progress of the construction and remodeling of more than 20 buildings.

In the afternoon, accompanied by Rolando Ayala, chief of infrastructure for COSSAN2023, Saldaña visited Estadio Nacional Jorge “El Mágico” González, where the opening and closing ceremonies are taking place. They also visited the beach stadium next to Gimnasio Nacional José Adolfo Pineda, and Complejo Deportivo de Cuidad Merliot.

On Saturday, the tours included Complejo Deportivo El Polvorín, Estadio de Sóftbol Pablo Arnoldo Guzmán, Palacio de los Deportes Carlos “Famoso” Hernández, and finally, Estadio Nacional las Delicias.

Once finished, Saldaña expressed satisfaction and optimism about the work she was able to see: “I see many people working, people with the heart to finish the works, it is a huge challenge. Next week (this Monday) I will meet the Sports Committee (from Centro Caribe Sports), and I must report on the progress”.

The vice-president for CCS also agreed with the objectives COSSAN2023 has for the San Salvador 2023 Games.

“May they be the best games, with the best facilities for the athletes, may they enjoy healthy coexistence and competition, and may it lead them on the right path for the Pan American Games and the Olympic Games”.
