On Monday, the boxing International Technical Delegate (ITD), José Luis Vellón, visited the Plaza Cívica Capitán General Gerardo Barrios, where boxing will possibly take place in the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023.

For the Puerto Rican delegate, the purpose of the visit was to evaluate the venue for the event, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of holding it at Plaza Gerardo Barrios. In this visit, as usual, the delegate was accompanied by personnel from the Infrastructure and Sports areas of the Organizing Committee of the San Salvador 2023 Games (COSSAN2023).
With the Metropolitan Cathedral and the National Palace in the background, Vellón and the members of COSSAN2023 talked about the advantages and disadvantages that could arise from hosting the event in this significant cultural hub. They were also able to share ideas, suggestion, and recommendations for having quality boxing at the San Salvador 2023 Games.

Vellón was pleased to bring boxing to the Salvadoran public in one of the busiest areas of the capital, as long as it can be organized with the quality standards required for a sporting event such as the Central American and Caribbean Games.
“We are evaluating the situations regarding the venues. We are looking at the possibility of having the event here, and we have to look at the pros and cons. Boxing is a sport with deep roots in Latin America, bringing it here (to Centro Histórico) is good for the people, instead of the public going to boxing, you are bringing boxing to the public. Now the important thing is to be able to organize the event tactically and make it a success, not only in the competitive activity but in the spectacle as such,” commented the delegate.

The Puerto Rican is also confident that quality boxing will be on display at the games. “We expect boxing to be one of the most outstanding sports, and we expect international and world-class figures to be present.”
During the San Salvador Games, boxing will take place from June 30 to July 6.
