President of Copaci reviewed cycling scenarios

Cuban José Manuel Peláez, president of the Pan American Cycling Confederation (Copaci) and vice president of the International Cycling Union (UCI), was in charge of making the technical review of the different sports venues where this sport will take place during the Central American Games and of the Caribbean San Salvador 2023.

Peláez carried out the tours in two days and culminated his work this Friday afternoon with a meeting with members of the Organizing Committee of the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023 (COSSAN).

Route, time trial, track, BMX and mountain biking will be the cycling competitions during the regional event that the country will celebrate next year.

This Friday, the international delegate toured the facilities of the TEXOPS BMX track in San Juan Opico and the El Espino Ecopark, where mountain biking will take place, all this as part of the advances in the organization of San Salvador 2023.

On Thursday, Peláez inspected the “Evelyn García” National Velodrome at the El Polvorín Sports Complex. He also verified the competition area where the road tests will take place, on the road to Comalapa and Zacatecoluca.

“The objective of our visit is to check the facilities where cycling will take place during the Central American and Caribbean Games. The time trial and route circuits were approved since they are roads that are in very good condition,” said Peláez, originally from Havana.

The president of the Salvadoran Cycling Federation, René Hidalgo, accompanied Peláez on the tour. Along with them were René Magaña, vice president of the FSC, Héctor Martínez, secretary, Mario Contreras, technical manager of the federation and Hugo Rubio, bike cross trainer.

Also accompanying the international delegate on the tour were Rafael Ponce
and Carlos Kuster, sports technicians from the National Sports Institute of El Salvador (INDES), who also serve as technical liaisons for the Organizing Committee of the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games (COSSAN).
