Solid Waste Collection Plan advances in the Sports Village

As part of the advances in the organization of the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023, through an inter-institutional meeting, details were defined for the elaboration of the solid waste management and collection plan at the University of El Salvador (UES) that will serve as Sports Village during the regional fair, from June 23rd to July 8th next year.

In addition to the meeting, a tour was made to establish possible solid waste collection points and access routes for collection trucks.

The activity was attended by coordinators and technicians from the Organizing Committee of the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023 (COSSAN), representatives of the solid waste area from San Salvador’s City Hall, the Ministry of Public Works (MOP), the Physical Development Area of the University of El Salvador (UES) and the National Institute of Sports of El Salvador (INDES).

“The mayor of San Salvador Mario Durán has given accurate instructions to join efforts with all institutions involved in the preparations for the Central American and Caribbean Games and we are looking at all the logistics to implement a cleaning system with a timely collection service to guarantee healthiness to athletes”, said German Muñoz, Director of Solid Waste Operations of San Salvador’s City Hall.

Regarding MOP, architects Yaranara Cota and Jonathan Monzón, sustainable mobility technicians, were responsible for reviewing the accesses and how the internal traffic for the Central American and Caribbean Sports Village will be during the development of the San Salvador 2023 Games.

“Different COSSAN units were involved, they contributed their opinions and their experiences and each one takes a summary of the decisions that were discussed”, said José Antonio Miranda, Head of the Management Unit of the Central American and Caribbean Sports Village.

In addition to the issue of solid waste, the City Hall of San Salvador will support the ornamental aspect of parks and green areas of the Sports Village.
