Sports psychology volunteering is ready for the San Salvador Games 2023

César Ramírez and Priscila Ramos, sports psychologists of the National Sports Institute of El Salvador (INDES), along with the team of volunteers from this area, conducted today a training called “Psychological preparation for competition”, aimed at the handball teams.

The activity took place at Ciudad Deportiva Inclusiva of INDES and is part of the specific training of the team of psychology professionals who will be volunteers in the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023.

“We are relying on volunteers, and today we completed the specific training with colleagues who will support us in the Villa Centroamericana y del Caribe and in the sports venues. We have a total of 16 psychologists,” said Ramirez.

Activation, auto-suggestion, visualization, and breathing exercises were some techniques put into practice with the selected participants. There were also group dynamics.

“In team sports, communication and teamwork, trust, cooperation, and leadership are important. The work with the handball teams helps us so that the volunteers can reinforce what the assigned teammates have done, and we are all ready for these games,” said Ramirez.

This group of psychologists is part of the volunteer team for the San Salvador 2023 Games and will be assigned to the different sports that will take place in the country during the regional competition in order to provide timely support to those who need it.

“We develop different techniques and exercises that contribute to the athletes’ better performance, combined with the physical exercise they have. These techniques are meant to maintain the balance between mind and body. This repertoire of techniques is part of the activities that we will be developing with the athletes during the games,” said Erika Ramirez, sports psychology volunteer for the San Salvador 2023 Games.
