The best in the world will be in San Salvador 2023: weightlifting ITDL

José Quiñones, International Technical Director (ITD) of weightlifting, visited today the Complejo Deportivo Flor Blanca accompanied by COSSAN2023 technicians and members of the Salvadoran Weightlifting Federation.

“I am here to verify that the weightlifting arena meets the conditions for the games,” said Quiñones as he toured the complex’s facilities.

Subsequently, the ITD held a meeting with personnel from the Infrastructure and Sports areas of COSSAN2023, in which Cuban advisor René Romero participated.

“What we have agreed is to move everything related to weightlifting to the area of the Cuna del “Mágico” González, a construction that is advancing rapidly and that, according to projections, will be ready on June 5,” said the Peruvian.

Raquel Artiga, manager of the Weightlifting Federation and venue director, confirmed that the ITD chose the Cuna del “Mágico” González for the competition.

“Everything indicates that on June 5, we can already have the physical recognition of the facilities for the games; we had the visit of the DTI this day, and we moved to the Cuna del “Mágico”. Gimnasio Adolfo Pineda was left as an alternative for training”, explained Artiga.

The XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023 are expected to be attended by top-level weightlifting athletes, including winners of world competitions from Colombia, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico, said the ITD.

“It is a great responsibility because the best in the world will be coming to San Salvador, and it is a reason of pride for the country. I am talking about the best in the world, those who have Olympic or world medals”, indicated the weightlifting ITD.
