The Central American and Caribbean Fire will begin its route to San Salvador 2023

This coming Tuesday, June 6, the Basamento Escalonado de la Luna in the Archaeological Zone of Teotihuacan, Mexico, will host one of the most sublime and emblematic moments of the San Salvador 2023 Games: the ignition of the Central American and Caribbean Fire.

Centro Caribe Sports, owners of the Central American and Caribbean Games, along with the Mexican Olympic Committee, will preside over this ceremony that will mark the beginning of the route of the Central American and Caribbean Fire.

For the lighting of the fire, the New Fire Ceremony will be performed, an ancient Mesoamerican ritual that took place every 52 years in different pre-Hispanic cultures. It is a ceremony of immense importance since it marks the end of a cycle in the Mesoamerican calendar and the beginning of a new one.

The route of the fire will reach its final destination on the night of Friday, June 23, when at Estadio Nacional Jorge “El Mágico” González, the fire will blaze at its maximum intensity, inaugurating the 24th edition of the Central American and Caribbean Games, to be held for the third time in San Salvador, capital of the Republic of El Salvador.
