The Salvadoran delegation is ready to rewrite history

A total of 550 athletes, 244 women and 306 men, led by flag bearers Ivonne Nóchez and Eliodoro Portillo, comprise the Salvadoran delegation that will compete in the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023, to be held from June 23 to July 8.

Being the host country, El Salvador will participate in 32 sports: chess, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, bowling, boxing, cycling, equestrian, fencing, soccer, gymnastics, golf, field hockey, karate, weightlifting, wrestling, swimming, skating, rugby, softball, rowing, surfing, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, shooting, archery, triathlon, judo, sailing, and volleyball.

The delegation will include the participation of elite athletes such as Ivonne Nóchez, the youth champion, in the World Skating Games 2022. Also present will be Gabriela Izaguirre, karate, winner of six gold medals in the Central American Championship CCONDEKA, bronze in the Central American and Caribbean Championship (CCCK) 2022 and qualified for the Pan American Games Santiago 2023.

It will also have experienced athletes such as archer Roberto Hernandez, who was champion in compound bow at the Pan American Games Lima 2019, and badminton player Uriel Canjura, a current silver medalist at the XXVI YONEX Pan Am Individual Championships 2023, held in Kingston, Jamaica.


As for team sports, one of the most important is the national beach soccer team, which has qualified for the World Beach Games in Bali; the basketball team will also participate, as will the 3×3 team, which has qualified for the Pan American Games Santiago 2023.

Regarding the opening sports for El Salvador, one of them is table tennis, which will take place at the Palacio de los Deportes Carlos “Famoso” Hernández from June 21 to 26; the second to begin activities is beach volleyball, from June 21 to 27, at Complejo Deportivo Flor Blanca.
